Most young adults that come through our doors do so as a last ditch effort to make something more of their lives. Most are hopeless, desperate, addicted, abandoned, abused, alone, homeless, scared and jobless. These young men and women have a desire to see change and transformation in their lives and they need is opportunity and someone willing to invest in them. From Gangs to Jobs provides that opportunity.
Our team, led by Natividad Mendoza, equips participants with the tools and training necessary to achieve a level of work-readiness and general life skills needed to experience success. The “From Gangs to Jobs” process begins with significant invest in each individual’s character. We believe that this is the foundation for life transformation.
In the words of Jesus, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart… For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” From Gangs to Jobs teaches students that attitude is everything. We take a more holistic approach to success by emphasizing the importance of both character growth and the development of practical life skills. We’re interested in long-term financial and relational stability of a student along with job placement. As students graduate from our program From Gangs to Jobs is committed to standing by these men and women as they navigate the challenges of life, learning how to provide for their families and contribute to their communities.
From Gangs to Jobs has adopted the nationally-acclaimed Baltimore Pipeline Initiative curriculum as the core educational content. Our program as a whole teaches basic education along with the following skills:
Students participate in regular classroom hours and also commit to participate in various community service projects.
In addition to the program described above, we have a handful of volunteers who teach GED prep course twice a week. Courses are taught at our facility where we work one-on-one with students in order to for the GED exam as well as future career opportunities.
